It seems like the cigarette ban has hitched a ride on a certain brand of tobacco: Zyn.
But what is Zyn?
How does it compare to other brands, and what do people think about the brand?
In the UK, Zymtobacco, a brand of premium tobacco, is the third-most popular brand among smokers, behind only Vapour and LorAnn, according to data from brand analytics firm Brand Analytics.
This year, Zydtobaco became the most popular brand of cigarettes in the UK among smokers aged between 18 and 25, according a survey of more than 11,000 UK adults conducted by Brand Analytics, which is based in Birmingham.
Zyd is also the brand that was most popular in 2016 among the UK’s younger age groups, with over 40 percent of the respondents aged under 35 saying they had tried it.
The brand is also one of the most searched for on Amazon.com.
According to the UK National Tobacco Survey, Zyl, which translates as “white tobacco,” was the most sought-after brand among UK smokers in 2016.
In fact, the brand has become a top choice for many British smokers, particularly those between the ages of 18 and 26, who often opt for white-flavored cigarettes to cut back on the nicotine.
“There is definitely a lot of crossover with the Zyn brand, which I think is an interesting thing, to see how it is perceived in the wider UK market,” Brand Analytics chief executive Mark Boulton told Business Insider.
“People are not going to be smoking Zyn for the nicotine, they’re going to buy Zyn because of the flavoring.”
For some, the popularity of Zyn has led to concerns over its safety.
In May, a report from British Columbia Health Insurance Research Network noted that while the tobacco industry had touted the safety of Zymts tobacco, “fewer than 5% of people have been exposed to nicotine from Zyn products.”
That’s because, unlike Zyns own product, which uses an artificial nicotine blend to deliver nicotine, Zyms tobacco contains real tobacco leaf, which has been manufactured to be safe for human consumption.
The report also noted that there was no data to suggest that Zyn was any more likely to cause lung cancer than other tobacco products, though some researchers believe Zyl may be less harmful than other cigarettes.
The issue of Zyl’s safety is also a concern in other countries around the world.
In January, British Columbia’s Tobacco Control Agency said that it was looking into the safety risks associated with Zyl.
A spokesperson for the agency told Business Insights that it is working with the company to investigate the risks associated to Zyls product.
“The agency is aware of reports that there is a potential link between Zyl and lung cancer,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
“The agency has been in contact with Zyd Tobacco to assess the safety profile of Zyd tobacco products.
We are continuing to monitor the issue and will take appropriate action when appropriate.”
A spokesperson for Zyd told BusinessInsights that the company has taken “appropriate action” in light of the concerns raised by the BCHRI, and that the safety issues with Zyn are under investigation.
“We are currently working with BCA to address the concerns they raised in relation to Zyn,” the spokesman said.
“Zyd has taken appropriate action to address those concerns and we continue to work closely with the BC Health Insurance Association to address any additional concerns.”
The UK has already banned the use of Zys tobacco in restaurants and bars, and has also banned smoking in public places, including bars and restaurants.
The ban is expected to go into effect on October 1.
Zyd Tobacco is currently owned by Philip Morris International, which also owns the brand of the same name, but it is still listed as a subsidiary of Philip Morris.
The company did not respond to Business Insider’s request for comment.
